People not familiar with comics or the name might be more familiar with the images of a certain DC comics character as she was presented in the 90s:įor 7 years Jim was the principal artist on Catwoman, a comic launched to chronicle the solo adventures of everyone’s favorite feline femme fatale whose popularity enjoyed a resurgence thanks to Michelle Pfeifer’s portrayal of the character in 1992’s Batman Returns. Tarot is the creation of one Jim Balent, an artist who has been in the comics world for years. So for the creator if you are reading this, don’t think too badly of Sims’s reviews as his bashing of your baby has lead to you earning at least one regular reader. Yes it’s a smut comic, yes the dialogue is cheesy, yes the plots are full of holes, but in many ways it’s a brilliant book that is better than some of the crap coming from the Big 2 for the past decade. As funny not to mention totally accurate they are they piqued my curiosity enough that I decided to check out the book for myself and it has become partly my guilty pleasure, and partly one of my genuine likes.
I first became aware of Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose by reading Chris Sims’s utterly hilarious reviews of the comic.
